Orilla A. Albers, 94, died Friday January 29, 2010 at a local nursing home of congestive heart failure. She was born August 9, 1915 in De Pere to the late Arnold and Anna (Aerts) Geurts. She attended St. Mary's Grade School, De Pere and on her 23rd birthday, August 9, 1938 she married Andrew Albers of De Pere at St. Mary's Catholic Church and they spent 71 plus years together. She worked as a waitress at the Union Hotel in De Pere prior to her marriage and for a time after. They then farmed in rural De Pere and moved to Ashwaubenon in 1958 where Andrew still resides. Orilla was employed at Spiegel Catalog Center in Green Bay, and J.C. Penney in the old store on Washington Street and in the then new store in Port Plaza Mall, retiring in 1980. Orilla was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed making homemade bread and rolls, pies, cakes, and cookies. When you sat at mom's dining table, it was like a picture in Better Homes and Gardens magazine.
She is survived by her husband Andrew; two children, Patricia (Thomas) Biskner, Howard and Arthur (Karla) Albers, West De Pere. She is further survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, Anna (Michael) Macco and children Andrew and Sophia, Howard, Joan (Grant W.) Wery and daughters Hayle and Emily, Krakow, Jon (Jennifer) Biskner and sons Brandon and Ayden, Howard, Mary (Robert) Bourin and children Emma, Abigail, and Bennett, Howard, James (Kendra) Albers, Champaign, IL, and Kevin Albers, Salt Lake City, UT. She is also survived by a brother Clarence Geurts, Ashwaubenon; two sisters Teresa Elfe, Ashwaubenon and Dorothy Wicker, Wrightstown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bernard (Lee) Albers, De Pere and Robert (Delores) Albers, Appleton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Orilla was preceded in death by her parents; sons John in 1949 and Arnold in 1950 and grandson Andrew Albers in 1980. Also preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law Frank (Ophelia) Geurts, Elmer (Lillian) Geurts, Leo (Marie) Geurts, Robert (Esther) Geurts, Ernest (Florence) Geurts, Bernard (Evelyn) Geurts; sisters and brothers-in-law Viola (Wilburt) Leiterman, Marcella (Harvey) Seiler; brothers-in-law Conrad Elfe and Ignatius "Bud" Wicker; and sister-in-law Mary Geurts; her father and mother-in-law Henry and Minnie Albers, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leo (Beatrice) Albers, sisters-in-law Patricia (in infancy) and Bernice Albers.
Visitation for Orilla will be Monday February 1, 2010 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, corner of Oneida St and Cormier Rd, Green Bay from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM at church with Fr. John Becker officiating. Burial will occur in spring at St. Paul Cemetery, Wrightstown.
