Paul Henry Janssen, 84, De Pere, passed away Wednesday morning, February 1, 2023. The son of Lawrence "Sheep" and Bernice (Baeten) Janssen was born on November 30, 1938.
Growing up, Paul was involved in a lot of things, especially sports. He loved his friends and his neighborhood. He knew everyone in town, and everyone knew him. He was competitive and always loved a little friendly competition. Paul played semi-pro football for the Manitowoc Chiefs and several years of Park & Rec slow pitch softball, he was known to most as Captain Pop Up.
On December 27, 1971, Paul married Joyce Kaminski. Together they raised eight children. Paul and Joyce enjoyed doing many things together especially going to the casino and spending time at Maple Heights Campground in Townsend. He also created wood carvings and crafts that he and Joyce would sell at the many craft sales they would travel to.
Paul spent his career as a millworker at Nicolet Paper and a few years as a landscaper before retirement.
Once retirement, he spent time working and cutting lawn at the St. Norbert Abbey.
Paul is survived by his children, Nancy (Paul) Geniesse, Andrea (Jeff) Sutton, Kent (Tina) Janssen, Kiz (Dan) Paterick, Kelli (John) Plamann, Pamela (John "J.R.") Watkins, Kory (Sherry) Janssen and Brenda Gonzalez. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Garret and Alyssa, Cheyenne and Mason, Kwynn and Cory, Tressa, Morgan, and Kimbre, Adam and Ashley, and Peyton. He is even further survived by great-grandchildren, Elle and Bronson; siblings, Kay Van Grunsven, Donna Debroux, and Jerome "Chum" (MaryJane) Janssen.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Joyce; parents, Lawrence and Bernice; parents-in-law, Richard and Viola (Maciejewski) Kaminski.
Family and friends may visit at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:30pm, with Fr. James Neilson, O. Praem. officiating. Entombment will take place at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established for Paul.
