IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Phil
Hauck
December 25, 1942 – October 5, 2023
Philip Christian Hauck, Kitty's husband of 58 years and a champion of Northeast Wisconsin's businesses and people, died on October 5, 2023.
He was a facilitator of peer groups for business leaders; President of Envision Greater Green Bay; a civic believer; a businessman and entrepreneur; the most curious person you'll ever meet; an optimist who knew there was something interesting in everyone, and believed everyone would succeed when we found the right place for them; a journalist, loyal correspondent, and documentarian; an adventurer and traveler; an 80-year-old who played tennis with 50-year-olds; a golfer who snuck on to start his rounds before the courses even opened; a booster of his nieces, nephews, and other people's children; an INTJ on Myers-Briggs; a lifelong friend who spearheaded regular get-togethers over and across decades; a counselor and mentor to countless businesspeople across the state; a lover of red wine, Seroogy's chocolate, and flip charts; the author of two books; a nonprofit board member and engine; the youth group leader who took kids out of church to get cinnamon rolls with him; the catcher on the over-30 softball team and centerfielder on the over-60 team; an annual participant in the Bellin 10K into his seventies, who stopped every few blocks to chat with cheering neighbors; a husband who learned to dance and love music because his wife did; the first in line for the Zippin Pippin; a regular attendee at high school and local college sporting events; the irreplaceable father of Katie and Brian; adopted and beloved father of their spouses, Craig and Leondra, both of whom he admired immensely; and "Granddude" to Izzy, Elliot, Viv, and Clive. He couldn't talk about them without smiling or getting tears in his eyes.
Phil was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Christmas Day in 1942, to Hugh and Helen Hauck. Like his father and younger sister, Sally, he attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he met Kitty. He then attended Columbia Business School in New York and married Kitty in 1965. They lived in New York, Chicago, and St. Louis, before moving to Green Bay in 1981. He said that Green Bay was his favorite place that he ever lived, and that anyone who left Green Bay wanted to move back. Phil retired in 2020, and became a driving force behind Envision Greater Green Bay's work to help the community's business, government, education, and nonprofit leaders prepare for the future.
Phil died of complications from multiple myeloma. Family and friends may visit at Union Congregational Church, 716 S Madison St, Green Bay, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 with Pastor Bridget Flad Daniels officiating. The service will be livestreamed at www.unionucc.com.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Norbert College's Phil Hauck Scholarship for Nonprofit Leaders, a scholarship that his many friends started to help nonprofit leaders maximize the impact of their missions and their work.
