Phyllis M. Counihan, 93, West De Pere, WI died unexpectedly just after midnight on July 24, 2016.
The daughter of Philip and Mary (Guerin) Van Remortel was born August 3, 1922 in West De Pere, where she lived all of her life.
She attended St. Joseph Grade School and was a graduate of the Nicolet High School class of 1941.
Phyllis was a secretary and bookkeeper for the Green Bay Chicago Lines for 12 years where she met the love of her life, Earl Counihan. They were married on June 18, 1946. They built a beautiful home on Lost Dauphin Rd, where they raised three children: Laurie, Tim, and Jeff of whom she adored and was so very proud.
One of the highlights of her life was spending time at their cabin on Archibald Lake with her family and many friends.
Phyllis was an avid bowler, loved dancing and music.
After Earl died, she enjoyed 26 years with Sunshine Travel, taking groups of friends around God's beautiful world.
She is survived by Laurie Counihan-Childs of Santa Barbara, CA, Tim (Kim) Counihan of De Pere, and Jeff (Sue) Counihan of Silverthorn, CO. She loved spending time with her precious grandchildren: Hannah of Santa Barbara, CA, Clay and Shelby of De Pere, and Evan and Rachel of Silverthorn, CO. Phyllis is also survived by her two beloved sisters Mary Jane Van Remortel of Appleton, WI, and Dottie Gerrits, of Sister Bay, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her son-in-law Russ Childs, her brother Harold Van Remortel, and her sister June Francois.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at RYAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM with Dcn Kevin DeCleene officiating. Phyllis will be laid to rest next to Earl in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Phyllis was the eternal optimist and truly loved by her family and many friends. She had a heart of gold and her faith, kindness and sense of humor helped her navigate her life with grace.
She will be eternally missed by everyone she touched.
