Obituary

Phyllis Rachel Hempel, 78, cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend and angel to all who knew her, fought with courage and dignity against cancer until December 20, 2010. She was born April 22, 1932 in Racine, WI to Rachel and Leo Moore and attended St. Catherine's High School where she made lifelong friends who held a special place in her heart throughout her life. Phyllis is survived by her loving and committed husband Robert "Bob" Hempel. They were married on June6th, 1953 and moved to Green Bay in 1957. Throughout their life together they established loyal and lifelong friendships with neighbors and business associates. Phyllis will be remembered for her fierce loyalty to family and friends, for making a warm and inviting home for all who visited, for her love of reading and playing cards and for her amazing memory. She is survived by 3 children, Linda (Sue Wilson) Eagan, Minnesota, Nancy (Brian Campbell) Sterling Heights, Michigan and Michael (Jill), Verona, Wisconsin. She will be missed by four loving granddaughters, Katelyn and Kelsey Campbell and Stephanie and Cassidy Hempel, her sister Cynthia (Edwin) Mayberry, and her nieces and nephews. Phyllis is preceded in death by her loving son Tom, brothers George and Tom and parents Rachel and Leo Moore. Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive De Pere after 4pm Monday, December 27, 2010. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Phyllis's life will be offered at 7pm with Fr. Tim Shillcox O.Praem officiating. The RYAN FUNERAL HOME of De Pere is assisting the family. Phyllis's family expresses their appreciation to Dr. David Groteluschen and Green Bay Oncology; and St Vincent's 7th and 9th floor staff. Our deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks goes out to the staff of San Luis Care Center 1-south and administration. You are a special group of truly caring and committed professionals. Thanks also to Father Tim, Our Lady of Lourdes, De Pere, Wisconsin. In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.
