Obituary

Raymond W. Rottier, 84, of Ashwaubenon, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, November 18, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Ashwaubenon on November 3, 1938, to the late Christian & Marie (Heezen) Rottier and graduated from St. Norbert High School in 1956. On August 24, 1963, at National Shrine of St. Joseph of West De Pere (Old St. Joe's) he married the love of his life Janice "Jan" Bougie.

Ray played an integral role in the Town of Ashwaubenon becoming a Village, being one of the longest living citizens that originated and resided in the Village for his whole life. He worked for the Village of Ashwaubenon and retired as the street superintendent after 36 years of service. He was also a member of the Town/Village of Ashwaubenon Volunteer Fire Department and served many years as the Fire Chief until the Village combined their Fire and Police departments into one Public Safety Department. As a charter member of the Retired Fire Company #213, he worked countless volunteer hours with other members of the club donating their profits to local charities. Additional positions that he enjoyed throughout his life were treasurer of the Ashwaubenon Historical Society, Election Chief for the Village of Ashwaubenon, and a member of the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPs).

He was a charter member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Ashwaubenon and an active member throughout his life. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, and enjoyed bowling and playing basketball. Playing cards was his favorite pastime and enjoyed visits by family members to play Schmear or Sheepshead. In his retirement, Ray & Jan were blessed with many years of travel, through cruises and bus trips, visiting his son and his family in Europe, while making many friends along the way.

Family was very important to Ray and spending time with them was his greatest joy. He always said how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. Ray and Jan were privileged to care for their many grandchildren, including a family friend's child (Tia).

Ray's family includes his wife, Jan; their children, Christine (Thomas) Crisp, Randy (Deb) Rottier, Renee (David) Becker, Joan (Peter) Geniesse, Ryan (Robyn) Rottier; grandchildren, Kevin, Stephanie, Logan, Miranda, Dylan, Austin (Lindsay), Greg (Kristen), William, Cameron, Jon, Cory, Rene, Alexis, and Maddie Lu; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Lucas, and Daniell, with one on the way; godchildren, Ed, Matt, and Ann; siblings, Geri, Richard "Dick" (Mary), Dale VanErem, Roland "Peck" (Joyce), Harvey (Alice), Robert "Bob", Catherine "Cathy", and Jean; "siblings", Bob (Linda), Ken (Donna), Barb (Tom), Glenn (Missy), Helen (Glen), Carol (Paul), JeanMarie, Rick (Joan), and Tim (Christel) as well as countless nieces and nephews.
