Raymond "Ray" Kiley, 91, De Pere, died Friday, December 23, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 16, 1925 in the Town of Glenmore to Walter and Mae (Sherlock) Kiley. On November 15, 1947, Ray married the former Dorothy Koltz at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, De Pere. Following Dorothy's passing on February 14, 1968, after 20 years of marriage and 8 children, he married the former Kathleen Egan on January 26, 1974 at Old St. Joseph Church, De Pere, a union that lasted 43 years and produced two children.
A kind, strong, intelligent and generous man, Ray was a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, bravely serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a faithful member of De Pere's St Francis Xavier Catholic Church his entire life. Ray absolutely understood the value of hard work. He was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 40 years and a school bus driver for 12, yet, somehow, found time to build two homes, with his own hands, for his family. He also had a remarkable talent for brightening any situation with his smiling Irish eyes, quick wit, and joke-telling ability. A lifelong fan of music, and a self-taught, talented musician, Ray fronted the Ray Kiley Band for many years, playing countless weddings, anniversaries, and other parties all over Wisconsin, including a popular, long-standing gig as the house band at the former Idle Hour Tavern in De Pere. He was also an avid Packers fan, rarely missing an opportunity to watch the Green & Gold, ever optimistic, always believing they would win in the end.
Ray is survived by his wife Kathleen Kiley; his ten children: Barbara (Bernard) Kapinos, Patricia (Jay) Meiers, Robert (Roya) Kiley, Daniel (Caron) Kiley, Donald (Paula) Kiley, Debra (John) Sekerak, Jean (Mark) Manders, Michael (Gina) Kiley, Shane (Christine) Kiley, and Kevin (Gia) Kiley; his 23 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren with another on the way in January; his brother James Kiley; sister Marcella (Leland) Hoffman; brother-in-law Ken Matzke; sister-in-law Marian Kiley; nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Dorothy Kiley; two grandchildren: Rebecca Valenta and Shannon Kiley; and his siblings: Marie (James) Pansier, Rosella (Joe) Reedy, Dolores Matzke, and Tom Kiley.
