Obituary

Raymond E. "Staz" Staszak 88, of De Pere passed away on Monday morning July 5, 2010. He was born June 13 1922 in Milwaukee to the late Henry and Lucy (Peplinski) Staszak. Ray graduated from West Green Bay High School in 1941. He was a UW LaCrosse graduate in 1948. He was united in marriage to Bernice "Bea" Fabry on March 2, 1946 at St Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay. Ray was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force having served his country during WWII along side his father Henry. Ray taught at West De Pere High School for 38 years. When Ray was not teaching he was very active in the school as well as the community. He officiated football, basketball, and track for 30 years. Ray was also the former President of the N.E.W. Officials Assn. Past President of the WDP Education Assoc. Ray had served as the President of the De Pere Police and Fire Commission. He was also the Municipal Judge for the City of De Pere, and served as the VP of the Wisconsin Municipal Judge Assn. Ray had also served on the Board of Directors for First Security Credit Union. He was a life member of the Green Bay Elk Club, and S.C.O.R.E., and a member of the Abbot Pennings Council 3955 of the Knights of Columbus. Ray was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family. He is survived by his children and grandchildren; Susan (Tom) Vande Walle and children, Scott (Becky) and Brett (Rebekah), Retired Col. Michael (Pam) Staszak and children, Derrick (Laura), Ryan (Carolyn), Andrew and his fianc Lauren, Megan (Matt), and Lindsey, Jeffery (Bobbianne) Staszak and children, Garrett, Lane, and Preston, Sgt. John (Tally) Nelson, Dan Nelson, Luke (Tonya) Nelson, and Pat (Lori) Staszak and children. Kyle and Kaitlin, and Taylor. His great grandchildren; Lilly and Reese Vande Walle, Logan and Lilly Staszak, Emily Staszak, Danae and Sophia Nelson. Ray's friend and companion Marge Mommaerts and family also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife Bea in 1996. His Sister June (Louis) Kaminski also preceded him in death. Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 N. Tenth St. De Pere from 3 8pm Friday, July 9th. With a parish prayer service at 3pm. Visitation will continue after 9:00am Saturday, July 10th at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Dr. De Pere until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with Fr. James Baraniak O.Praem officiating. Entombment will take place in the Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the family.
