Raymond "Ray" Verheyen, 72, Hobart, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday evening February 1, 2009. He was born July 30, 1936 to the late John and Caroline (Kerkhoff) Verheyen. On September 1, 1956 he married Betty Liebergen at St. Boniface Catholic Church in De Pere. Ray retired from Armour Meats in Green Bay. He and Betty owned and operated the Gas Light Inn for many years. Ray was an avid Hunter, fisherman, gardening, and enjoyed his home in Daggett, MI. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oneida. Ray loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as his favorite pet dog Brandi.
He is survived by his wife Betty, his children; Suzanne (John) Aulik, Sherry (Jim) Leanna, James (Susan) Verheyen, Jerry (Mindy) Verheyen, Tammy (Rick) Braun, his grandchildren; Michael, Chad and his special friend Emily, Alicia, Erica, Nick, Matthew and his special friend Kim, Adam, Josh, Justin, Brian, Travis, and his great granddaughter; Marissa. He is further survived by his siblings; Evelyn Guerts, Florence Gardipee, Mary (Joe) Kunesh, Harold Verheyen, Nola (Fabian) Rentmeester, Cliff (Joann) Verheyen, Eileen (Lloyd) Sigl, Juleen Scray, Bernard (Elaine) Verheyen, Cletus Verheyen, Cyril (Mary) Verheyen, Darrell (Fiance Margean) Verheyen. Ray is further survived by his sisters in law; Betty Higgins, Delores Verheyen, Betty Verheyen, and his brother in law; James Devroy, as well as Betty's family; Robert (Ethel Liebergen, and Lawrence (Hazel) Liebergen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in law; Harry and Lillian Liebergen, his siblings; Elmer, Alvin, John Jr., Clayton, Delores Verheyen, and Judy Devroy. Ray was also preceded by his brothers and sisters in law; Carl Gardipee, Will Lhost, Bud Guerts, Bernard Scray, Lillian Verheyen, Elaine Verheyen, and Ralph Liebergen.
Friends may call after 9am Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oneida until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with Fr. David Koch officiating. Entombment will take place in Fort Howard Mausoleum. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to express online condolences to the family.
