Raymond Michael Zurawski, 66, of De Pere, passed away unexpectedly on November 3, 2020, while on his daily bicycle ride.
Ray was born August 1, 1954, in Stevens Point, WI, to Raymond and Cecilia Zurawski. Ray developed a passion for reading and learning at a very young age, which led him to his career in research and education.
Ray earned his PhD at the University of Kansas (Lawrence) in clinical psychology where he met his wife Susan. They were married in 1981 in Freeman, SD.
Ray began his career teaching at the University of Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa, TX. He arrived at St. Norbert College in 1986 where he taught for 30 years and then served as Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness for the last five years.
Ray is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan; daughter, Alexandra; and brother, Richard (Jackie).
Ray was a man of eternal optimism and made each person he encountered feel worthy of a conversation and his beloved grin. He took great pride in his family and enjoyed his many travels to South Africa to visit his daughter. His wealth of knowledge, clever sense of humor and kind-natured demeanor served as remarkable attributes throughout his time at SNC. He was blessed with the quality of effortless patience and an innate ability to listen; eager to assist and guide, most often with a splash of wit and a twinkle in his eye. Much like his namesake, his cheery disposition brightened up a room like a ray of sunshine.
Ray expressed his love through his skills in the kitchen, and never shied away from a glass of fine wine or a good cocktail. He was deeply invested in all aspects of his life - his abundant love and time for family, his commitment to research and teaching at SNC, his fondness for travel, a ride on his bicycle, a good book, time spent in the yard and great conversation filled with laughter.
He will be forever missed by those who had the fortune of knowing him and will leave an imprint of love, optimism, kindness and humor on all whose lives he so beautifully graced.
There will be a memorial service for family and friends that will be live-streamed on Wednesday, November 18th at 4pm CST. Those who would like to join the service virtually can contact oie@snc.edu or phone 920-403-3855 to attend the celebration.
