Obituary

Richard "Rick" Nell of Allouez passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016. Rick was born on October 24, 1953 to Eugene and Shirley (Wittnebel) Nell in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Rick grew up in Juneau working on his family's farm. He graduated from Dodgeland High School in 1971. After graduating from high school Rick joined the Air Force where he was stationed in many different places, his favorite was the year that he spent living in Greece serving his country. While in the Air Force Rick completed college and graduated with a degree in Accounting from Minot University in 1980. He later went on to law school, graduating from Marquette University with a Juris Doctorate in Business Law in 1988. His favorite quote was "Luck is for Rabbits". He met Nina Smith in 1984 while living in Milwaukee and they were later married on August 9, 1986. Rick has practiced law in De Pere since 1990 and In 2011 started Nell & Associates. Rick's greatest joy was his children Tricia and Chris. Rick enjoyed fishing and his most memorable trip was a fly-in Canadian fishing trip with his late father Eugene. Rick also enjoyed gardening and created a beautiful backyard sanctuary, complete with fountains and many flowers. He also liked camping, traveling and hockey trips to watch his son play. Rick was also active in the community, serving on multiple committees including, Celebrate De Pere, De Pere Kiwanis, Brown County Republican Party, De Pere Main Street, Green Bay Junior Gamblers & Ashwaubenon Ice Management. Survivors include his wife Nina, daughter Tricia and son Chris; mother Shirley, sister Deb (Mac) Bunce, brothers Gary (Julie) Nell, Craig (Kelly) Nell; Godchild Cassie (Chad) Torkelson; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rick was preceded in death by his father Eugene Nell; paternal grandparents Elmer & Sylvia Nell; maternal grandparents William & Bernice Wittnebel. Friends and family are invited to gather, to celebrate Rick's life on Friday, September 16, 2016 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 PM 7:00 PM when a time to share stories will be held to bring the evening to a close. Visitation will continue after 9:00 AM Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church 220 S. Michigan Street De Pere, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM with Fr.
