Obituary

Rita May Summers, age 93 of Oneida, passed away at home on Sunday, August 6, 2023 with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She was born in Oneida on November 26, 1929 to Milton and Mildred (Elm) Summers. She attended Silver Summit, Washington Jr. High School and graduated from East High School, in 1949. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and graduated with a BS in Sociology and later returned in 1984 and earned her Masters Degree in Social Work.

Rita was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Church of Latter-Day Saints. She was called to serve two missions. The first being in 1953 at the Southwest Indian Mission in Gallup, New Mexico and the second in 2005 at the Montana, Billings Mission.

In 1961, she married Gerald Anton in the Manti Temple in Manti, Utah and they had 4 children. They resided in Utah for a few years and then moved to Arizona for many years.

Rita returned to Oneida in 1992 and worked as the Coordinator for the Oneida Child Placement Agency. She retired from full time employment in 1996. After retirement, she served on the Oneida Personnel Commission and returned as a part time employee working with the Alzheimer's Group at Elderly Services. She retired from all employment in 2008 at the age of 80.

Rita was a caregiver for several of her grandchildren at different times throughout her life. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren could always look forward to receiving a birthday card and Christmas card from Grandma Rita. She most enjoyed phone calls and visits from her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Kim Kevin (Judy) Anton, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gerald Shane (Wavalene Sunders) Anton, Mesa, Arizona, Leanne (Carl) Jordan, De Pere, WI, and Tina Marie Anton, Scottsdale, AZ, 10 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. Her sisters, Noel Cleven, Jan Frion, LouAnn Green and Arvilla (Arlie) Doxtater, brothers, Lynn (Claire) Summers and Phillip Summers and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Mildred (Elm) Summers, siblings and in-laws, Amanda Summers, Ella (Bill) Sauer, Lavinia Metoxen, Emma (Ron) Schultz, and Milton Tony Summers.

Family and friends may visit at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, N6135 Seminary Rd., Oneida, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, August 14, 20203. Oneida Singers will begin at 10:30 AM with services beginning at 11:00 AM.

Food donations may be brought to the above church by 11:30 AM on Monday.
