Obituary

Robert "Bob" Achten, 88, of De Pere passed away peacefully Saturday morning September 25, 2010 at home. The son of the late Jacob and Eva (Hibbard) Achten was born April 18, 1922 in De Pere. On March 13, 1943 he married the former Bernice Bellin in St. Charles, MO. She preceded Bob in death January 15, 1973. He later married Hazel (Erickson) Demske on May 17, 1986 and she preceded him in death on July 18, 2002. Bob was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army, 698th Engineers, proudly serving in the European Theater. He owned and operated Robert Achten Siding Company for many years. Bob enjoyed his retirement years golfing and playing cards. Bob lived his life simply, guided by the principle of doing the right thing, in which he so firmly believed. Survivors include his children, Guy and Kathleen Achten, Jay and Pam Achten, Nina and Steve De Keyser, step-children, Glenn Seiltz, Ron and Sherry Demske, Dale and Nancy Demske, grandchildren, Adam (Melissa) Achten, Amanda Achten and special friend, Jesse Sinicki, Sara Achten, Beth De Keyser, Michelle (Jerry) Buresh, Todd Seiltz, Nicole (Bill) Frank, Holly Demske, Kristin (Tyler) Stelzer, Charlie Demske, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Bob is further survived by his siblings, Albert Achten, James (Laura) Achten, Norbert (Helen) Achten, Marguerite DeVos, Lucille (Richard) Baeten, Mary (Merle) Derpinghaus, sisters-in-law, Barbara Achten and Mary Achten, and additional siblings and in-laws of Bernice and Hazel's Families. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Bernice and Hazel, two infant children, brothers, Jacob, John, and Bernie, one sister Edith Novoselatz, one step-daughter, Karen Seiltz, and deceased members of Bernice and Hazel's Families. Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 North Tenth Street, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:30 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday September 28, 2010. Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue after 9:30 am Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, Lourdes Avenue at Suburban Drive, De Pere until time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at the church with Father Tim Shillcox, O. Praem., officiating. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
