Obituary

Robert James Diny, 84, Greenleaf, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, after a battle with cancer. He was born on October 8, 1930, in Greenleaf to the late Frank and Alma (Sterr) Diny. He married Marian Brittnacher at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown on October 3, 1957. Bob farmed in partnership with two of his brothers, Joe and Tom, for many years, and then continued farming with his three sons. He enjoyed working the land, planting crops and driving the combine. Bob enjoyed time spent with family, baseball, fishing, raising elk, bowling, traveling, cooking, watching the Packers, and especially, playing cards. He liked to nurture his wide variety of fruit and nut trees, berries, and enjoyed gardening. He had a big heart, an incredible sense of humor, and loved to spend time with and tease the grandchildren. He will be deeply missed. Bob was a devoted, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather to his surviving wife, Marian, his children, Kathy Diny, Joan (Dean) Sherman, Jim (fiance Eydie Strand) Diny, Sharon (Rick) VanDerWegen, Ron (Debbie) Diny, Carol (Kelly) Williquette, Lori (Randy) Verdette, Paul (Jeni) Diny, and 18 grandchildren: Matt and Mike Sherman; Robert, Hannah, Owen and Elliott Diny; Mark, Nicole and Anna VanDerWegen; Ryan and McKenzie Diny; Amber and Heather Williquette; Karina Verdette; and Zachary, Ethan, Sawyer, and Abby Diny. Also survived by a brother, Tom (Angel) Diny, sister-in-laws Delores Diny and Gladys Diny, in-laws Catherine Peters, Eunice Nackers, Charlotte Micksch, Audrey (Marv) Fox, Rita Brittnacher, and Nick (Gail) Brittnacher, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anne; his parents; siblings Florence (Norb) Kersten; Clarence (Marie) Diny; Marie (Paul) Lehman; Marcella (Vincent) Murphy; Norbert Diny, Mike Diny, Joe Diny, Theresa Diny, and Cecilia Diny. He was a long-time member at St. Clare Parish (St. Mary's site) in Greenleaf. Visitation at the church (2212 Day St./Hwy. 96, Greenleaf) on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 9-11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Bergsbaken presiding, and burial at the church cemetery later in spring. To respect Bob's wishes, the casket will be closed. Flowers can be sent to Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, or monetary donations to Unity Hospice or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the staff of Unity Hospice and Dr. Winkler and Marcy of Green Bay Oncology for the compassion and care given to their beloved husband and father.
