Robert "Bob" J. Karner, 79, De Pere, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at a local hospital surrounded by his family. He was born February 18, 1930 in Hollandtown, WI a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Tikalsky) Karner. On May 28, 1959 Bob married the former Agnes Beyer at Sacred Heart in Spruce, WI.
Bob served his country in the US Army. After his service he worked on the family farm and was employed as a truck driver at the Whiteclover Dairy and 4X Concrete. After retiring Bob drove for Lamers school bus division, he lovingly spent ten years driving special needs children. He volunteered for the special needs children of Aspiro and for Meals on Wheels, De Pere. He was an avid member of the De Pere Men's Club. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren; attending every event in which they were involved, enjoyed camping at Huckleberry Acres, traveling tours across the country, playing cards, and singing at funerals. Those who knew Bob knew him to be a deeply religious man. There was not a day that passed by which he did not pray the rosary.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Agnes (Beyer); daughter Donna (Bob) Brantmeier, Kaukauna; five sons Steve (Susan), De Pere, Larry (Sue), De Pere, Lenny (Kimberly), Wrightstown, Pat (Jane), Wrightstown, and Jerry, De Pere; eleven grandchildren: Heather, Melissa (William), Melanie, Nathain, Stephanie, Cassandra, Molly, Jacob, Sarah (Eric), Tyler, and Sam. He is further survived by a great grandchild Kaidan; two sisters: Leona (Bill) Rabe, De Pere, and Blanche Hansen, Bellevue; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his son Tommy, brothers Norbert and Richard; and his sister Virginia Carter; .
Visitation for Bob will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a Prayer service at 7:45 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes and Suburban Dr., De Pere, from 8:30 AM until time of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church at 10:00 AM with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Hollandtown, WI.
