Robert "Bob" J. McCabe, 83, was called to Heaven on Wednesday morning, March 17, 2010 at a local nursing home. Bob was born June 15, 1926 in the Town of Lawrence, a son of the late Patrick and Helen (Sullivan) McCabe. On November 19, 1946 Bob married Delores VandeHei. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2009.
Bob proudly served his country during World War II from 1943 to 1947, enlisting at age 17 in the US Navy. He was stationed at Patuxent River Navy Base in Maryland. He flew targets for gunnery practice for Navy pilots. Bob worked for Proctor and Gamble as a machine operator for over 40 years. Bob was involved in his church and was a devoted Catholic; he served as an usher and lecturer for St. Joseph Church and Our Lady of Lourdes. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, camping, and having family get togethers. In retirement Bob worked with his wife Delores at the Union Hotel in De Pere.
Bob is survived by his children: Thomas (Sue) McCabe, Linda (David) Neuser, Kay (Nick) Moore, Dean (Debbie) McCabe, Patrick (Cindy) McCabe, Michael McCabe, Mary (Thom) Hodkiewicz, Randall (Linda) McCabe, twenty-four grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters: Dorothy Vanderloop, and Elaine VanDomelen; brothers-in-law Clarence VandeHei and Elmer Kerkhoff; and his sister-in-law Marilyn "Sis" McCabe
Bob was preceded in death by three children: Barbara, Mark, and Jack, grandson Calvin, as well as one daughter in law Mary McCabe, sisters Rita Kerkhoff, Doreen Sendzik, and Betty Vandehei ; and his brothers James and John McCabe.
Family and friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Suburban Dr and Lourdes Ave, De Pere on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 9:00 AM until time of Mass. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at church with Father Tim Shillcox, O. Praem, officiating. Military Rites for Bob will follow Mass. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
