Obituary

Robert F. Prochniak, 87, De Pere, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 12, 2012, with his loving wife of 63 years at his side. He was born on May 12, 1924 in Racine, WI to Polish immigrant parents, the late John Clements and Mary Martha (Niklas) Prochniak. His education began at home with 17 years of Polish culture and philosophy. Bob was very proud of his Polish heritage. Bob attended St. John Nepomuk Grade School and Horlick High School in Racine, WI. He was very active in sports, playing baseball and softball, making many good friends. When Congress implemented the draft, Robert was inducted into the U.S. Army. He attended Army Special Services schools in Aberdeen, Maryland and Atlanta, Georgia. In 1945, he received an honorable discharge. In 1949 Bob married Marion L. Kitto in Racine, WI at St. John Nepomuk Church. Bob and Marion were grade school classmates who renewed their friendship through letter writing while Bob was in the service. They have four children: Julie, Todd, Mary, and John. Bob was blessed with a happy and joyful marriage with his wonderful wife. Bob enjoyed a successful career in industrial water treatment. He retired in 1982. He was a graduate of Marquette University and a member of the Marquette Fifty Year Club. He was a member of the following: Disabled American Veterans; Elks Club; Knights of Columbus #617; National Association of Corrosion Engineers; Past President of the Concerned Hearts Club of Green Bay; Our Lady of Lourdes Family Parish in De Pere and St. Matthew Parish in Allouez for 32 years. Survivors include his wife, Marion and four children: Julie (Dave) Marie, Todd Prochniak, Mary Prochniak, and John (Brenda) Prochniak; six grandchildren Derek, Carissa, Ethan, Murphy, Andrew, and Alec. Also surviving are his sister-in-laws Elaine Poulson and Dorothy Prochniak, and a sister, Pat Smith. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; and brothers, Edward, Harry, William, Richard, Eugene; and his sister Frances Sielaff. Services will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family Parish, corner of Lourdes Avenue and Suburban Drive, in De Pere. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem and Fr. C.P. Mulrooney, O. Praem concelebrating.
