Obituary

Robert "Bob" O. Schmidt passed away Friday, December 04, 2009 peacefully at home with his family by his side after a 21-year journey with cancer. The son of the late Otto and Elizabeth (Plutchak) Schmidt was born February 8, 1917 in Rockland. Robert was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army Air Corps as a Medical Technician in the Air Transport Command stationed in Brazil. On May 4, 1946, he was united in marriage to Alice Maurer at St. John Lutheran Church, De Pere. He and his wife dairy farmed on the Town of Glenmore for 33 years. He was a 62-year member of St. John Lutheran church where he had served on the church council, was a faithful past usher and a past volunteer in the weekly church treasury work for 22 years. He also served as clerk of the former Kiley School. During retirement, he enjoyed traveling, bowling, reading, and golfing. He was privileged to golf a "Hole in One" at age 80. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his two granddaughters and especially attending Leah's and Shannen's softball games. Robert is survived by his wife Alice; one daughter Sally Campshure, De Pere; one son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Dawn Schmidt and their children Leah and Shannen, De Pere. He also is survived by his brother Donald, Wayside; his sister Audrey Schwahn, Florida; three sisters-in-law Violet Schmidt and Verna Schmidt, De Pere, and Hilma Schmidt, Bellevue. Also, Alice's sister Josephine Grohusky, De Pere survives him. He is further survived by his special godchild, Dennis and Kay Schlittenhart and other godchildren, Roberta Anderson, Terry Schmidt, Scott Appleby, Tom Schwahn, and nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norbert, Carl, Vernon, and Otto; two sisters-in-law Pat Schmidt and Lorraine Schmidt; four sisters and three brothers-in-law Irene Schmidt, Leonora (Norbert) Beimborn, Ruth (Ed) Appleby, and Lila (Bernard) Schlittenhart. Bob was also predeceased by Alice's family Melvin (Lucille) Maurer, La Vern (Harold) Thiele, and Carl (Noretta) Maurer, and Leonard Grohusky. Visitation for Bob will be Monday, December 7, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church, 1700 Lost Dauphin, De Pere, from 9:30 AM until time of service. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM at church with Pastor Brian Cain and Pastor Andrea Cain officiating. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Park. RYAN FUNERAL HOME, De Pere is assisting the family.
