Obituary

Robert J. (Bob) Wilmet, 71, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014. Bob was born in Green Bay in 1942 to Alvin and Magdalen (Maggie Vanden Heuvel) Wilmet. He attended St. Boniface Grade School and graduated from West De Pere High School in 1962. In 1964, Bob married Bonita (Bonnie) Clabots at St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere. The couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 23. Bob worked for many years at Steckart's Fine Furniture in De Pere. He was a long time member of the De Pere Noon Optimist Club, the De Pere Knights of Columbus, and St. Francis Xavier Parish. A committed advocate for community involvement, Bob served numerous terms on the De Pere City Council, the Brown County Board, De Pere /Green Bay Crimestoppers, and was commissioner of the De Pere Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was a tireless fundraiser for local civic improvements including the De Pere Optimist Club Park, Redbird District Projects (De Pere High School Athletic Complex), the De Pere Community Center. In 1979, Bob was named De Pere's Citizen of the Year by the De Pere Chamber of Commerce. Along with local politics, Bob enjoyed morning coffee with his "advisers" at various restaurants in West De Pere, was an avid reader, appreciated the beauty of Door County, and enjoyed following the activities of his children and grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters Pamela (Wayne) Pirman and Paula (Ray) Bildings, as well as five grandchildren: Elinor and Milena Pirman, and Emily, Elizabeth and John Bildings. He is further survived by brothers Jack (Marlene) Wilmet, and Dick Wilmet; sisters Cathy (Rich) Baylie, Joan Kreuser, and Mary (Dave) Knoll; Bonnie's sisters Margaret (Mike) Vieau, and Mary (Cleo) Klubertanz; and brother Peter (Nancy) Clabots; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Bonnie's parents Clete and Bonita Clabots; a sister Shirley; brothers-in-law Dan Stencil, Bob Besaw, Bill Kreuser, and Michael Clabots. Friends and family may gather at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 South Michigan Street, De Pere, on Thursday, February 20, 2014 beginning at 12pm.
