Obituary

Roger J. Freeman passed away peacefully on June 23, 2022. He was born on May 16, 1941, in Green Bay, WI, to the late Martin and Amelia Freeman. The family lived on a farm in Wrightstown, before moving to Green Bay. Roger graduated from Premontre High School in Green Bay, in 1959. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration from UW-Oshkosh in 1964. After graduation, Roger was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve at OCS in 1965; and later in 1968, he was appointed as lieutenant. He served overseas during the Vietnam War, serving as captain aboard supply vessels that would bring supplies to land from the ship. While stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Roger met his wife Nancy, who was employed by the U.S. Public Health Service, giving vaccines and doing TB testing of new recruits. On June 27, 1970, Roger married the love of his life, Nancy and they would enjoy 44 years of marriage, having two children, Laura and Kerry. After leaving the military, Roger was employed by Carnation Company as the plant manager in Oconomowoc, WI before accepting a promotion and moving to the corporate headquarters in Los Angeles, CA in 1974. He eventually earned his Executive MBA from the University of Southern California in 1988. To get closer to family, Roger moved his family back to Wisconsin in 1992 and resided in De Pere until his passing. Before retiring, Roger worked as a realtor for Montgomery Realty and Coldwell Banker. Roger was a dedicated father and husband. Roger was always insightful and provided valuable advice/words of wisdom to live by. Specifically, "you can control only your reaction" and "you can lose by winning," to name a couple. The time spent as a family and traveling on family trips will be cherished. Roger's work ethic and the example he set as a positive role model will never be forgotten. His sense of humor would put a smile on your face. Roger was an avid, life-long bridge player. He played bridge on at least a weekly basis, even playing online during the height of the pandemic. He enjoyed wood working, which Nancy would Tole paint for the annual holiday craft boutique that she was a part of for many years. He loved watching birds, as they would play in a water dish, on his backyard deck. He is survived by his two daughters, Laura (Freeman) Mason and Kerry Freeman; as well as his sister, Patricia Neerdaels. Roger is preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy; his parents, Martin and Amelia Freeman; his brother Paul Freeman; and his son-in-law Bradley Mason. Roger is survived by his in-laws, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, neighbors and dear friends. Family and friends may gather at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 9th St, Green Bay, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Beno officiating and Fr. Jack Harper concelebrating. Full Military Honors will follow. Laura and Kerry would like to thank everyone for the encouragement and support during this sad and difficult time. A special thank you for Fr. Jack Harper for providing comfort and friendship to Dad through the difficult time of Mom's passing. Dad lived amongst a special group of neighbors that looked out for each other through the years – a BIG Thank You for their friendship and support to Dad. With a grateful heart, Laura and Kerry count their blessings to have had Dad and Mom for parents. They are greatly missed!
