Ronald Edwin King Sr., Lohw˄nakahte "He has many good words". Age 76 went onto the spirit world on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, with his fiancé by his side.
Ron was born January 29, 1947, in Green Bay. He is the son of the late Lillian and Edwin King SR. and graduated from Seymour High School, class of 1965. He also attended Brigham Young University and was later drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in the Vietnam War.
Ron holds many accolades for his athleticism during High School and adulthood. He enjoyed the games of basketball, baseball, football, track, and golf. Ron was coached and played the game with many great teammates and won numerous championships with the Oneida Warriors and Oneida Braves.
Ron was employed by Ma Bell (AT&T) Phone Company and the Oneida Nation for many years. While serving with the Oneida Police Department, he held various positions, such as Security Officer, Patrolman, Lieutenant, and interim assistant Chief. Ron retired as a Lieutenant on February 15, 2007.
Ron lived his dream during retirement, by traveling with his fiancé Diane to golf tournaments, and spending time with family and friends. Ron and Diane spent their winters in Arizona. There they enjoyed golf, and warm weather.
Ron was a member of the Native American Church; he held a strong faith in the N.A.C. ceremonies and prayer circle. He took care of his responsibilities to the church and members. He would often be cutting wood, keeping the fire, or watching the door or cedar. Ron was always involved in his responsibilities to the church and the Creator. He loved to sit in the circle to pray and sing with his family, especially his nephews. Ron traveled to ceremonies and met many people who came to the fire circle. He was often referred to as Uncle or Big Guy.
Ron was an established Fan Maker and Beader. He spent his time creating beautiful fans, gourd rattles, drums, and drumsticks for ceremonies, family, and friends to enjoy.
He enjoyed golfing, cooking, pie making, beading, and fan making. Ron loved to travel, warm weather and sitting in the prayer circle to sing and drum. He also loved home cooked meals, cookouts, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, and his grandchildren's sporting events.
Ron is survived by his fiancé Diane Denny, who was his golf and life partner for 39 years. His children; Michelle (Phillip) Jordan, late Julie (Larry) Hill, Jason (Heidi) King, Ron Jr. (Bobbi Jo) King and Diane's children; Delores (Kelly) Denny, Pam (Dan) Hertzel, Roy and family, the late Ralph Jr., and Rodney. 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Ron's siblings; Marilyn, Edwin Jr., Arthur (Mike), Bruce, Albert Sr., Aunt Lois Powless and their family's as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lillian and Edwin King Sr., daughter Julie, sister Pamela Webster, grandparents Irene and Simon Moore, and Albert and Sarah King.
Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 9:00AM Saturday, February 3, 2024. The Oneida Hymn Singers will sing at 11:30AM followed by military rites at 12:00PM.
