Rosa Hill Coenen, 78, passed away mid-day on August 10, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Rosa was born on November 1, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Norbert Sr. and Eileen (Johnston) Hill. When Rosa was 15 years old, her family relocated to Oneida, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of West De Pere High School, class of 1965.
In 1967, Rosa was crowned the first Miss Oneida, an honor she embraced with great pride. It was her first opportunity to travel and “see” the world. Almost 60 years later, this achievement has remained a special part of her life's story.
Rosa held many jobs throughout her life, with much of her professional life focused on human resources. Early on, she worked as a bank teller before redirecting her career path into professional development and training at both St. Norbert College and Prevea Health. A natural “people person” Rosa was valued for her ability to genuinely connect with others, build trust, and listen with empathy.
Outside of work, Rosa enjoyed the things that made life fun. Whether on the golf course, around a cribbage table, or on lunch dates with girlfriends, Rosa enjoyed good company and good times.
For many years, Rosa and her husband, Rick, were actively involved in Marriage Encounter, an experience that brought them many treasured friendships and lifelong memories. Their faith and commitment to one another were an important part of their life together.
Rosa is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rick Coenen; her daughter, Sarah, and her longtime partner, Joe; her son, Mark; and her brother, Norbert Hill Jr.and his wife, Mary as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Author; and her brothers Charlie, Rick and Jim Hill.
Rosa will be remembered for her feisty spirit, beautiful laugh, strength of character, and generous heart. She touched countless lives with her kindness and her genuine love for others. She was full of life, and she made life more joyful for those around her.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Rosa during visitation on Sunday, August 16, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Rosa’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Old St. Joe’s Church at St. Norbert College, 123 Grant Street, De Pere, WI 54115, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rosa’s honor to the Dr. Rosa Minoka Hill Fund.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at Anna John Nursing Home. We are deeply grateful for the love, care, and compassion they extended to Rosa this past year.
