Roy Joseph Wellner, 94, passed away peacefully in the early hours of November 9, 2021, surrounded by his family. The son of Joseph and Viola (Collins) Wellner was born on August 17, 1927.
He served in the United States Army in the mid -1940s. On August 26, 1950, Roy married Millie Anderson. They raised four children together and celebrated 66 years together prior to her death in March, 2017.
Roy spent his career as a machine operator at Mill Print. He was a volunteer Firefighter for the Lawrence Fire Department and was the Lawrence Town Fire Inspector for over three decades. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, deer hunting and spending time at his cottage, especially after retirement. Along with Millie, they enjoyed going out for fish with family and friends usually followed by a game of Sheepshead. He also could play a strategic game of cribbage and frequently would skunk his opponent.
Roy was grateful he had the opportunity to participate in a WWII Old Glory Honor Flight in September 2016. He frequently talked about this experience and how much he enjoyed the trip.
Roy is survived by his children, Mike (Darlene) Wellner, Sharon (Dan) Gerrits, Jim Wellner, and Colleen Albers (Curt Corbeille). He is further survived by nine grandchildren, Courtney (Bryan) Dearinger, Brent (Sarah) Wellner, Brian (Shannon) Gerrits, Sarah (Paul) Berndt, Crystal (Joe) Gerarden, Bart Wellner, Carly (Aaron) Prekop, Caitlin (Dru) Harris, and Callie Albers. He is even further survived by ten great-grandchildren, brother Terry Wellner; as well as other members of his extended family.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Millie; parents, Joseph and Viola, siblings and siblings-in-law, Selma (Ruben) Labs, Ethel (Ray) Sawicki, Lois (Elmer) Zeamer, Sylvia Anderson, Sylvester Anderson ,Tom Wellner, Suzanne (Norb) Lebal, and son-in-law Chad Albers.
Family and friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. and it will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/ryan.funeral.home.
Burial will follow at Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family will be making donations to Unity Hospice and the Old Glory Honor Flight.
