Obituary

Sally Hecker passed away on March 12, 2025, at the age of 89. She was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Dora Cavil. Prior to graduating East De Pere High, she assisted the award winning Leininger Portrait Studio and soon was addicted to photography as a hobby.

After graduation, Sally and her one true love, Donald Hecker, were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in De Pere. They were fortunate to enjoy 70 years together. Sally was very proud of their six beautiful daughters. Sally was a full-time mom and made a loving and secure home for their family.

As an accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed creating her daughters' school dresses. With scraps of fabric, she created matching Barbie doll clothes. A gifted knitter, she made beautiful sweaters for children and herself. She was a great cook and baker and taught her daughters to be good cooks as well.

Throughout the girl's school years, the young family enjoyed summers camping in Oneida County State parks, fishing, and swimming.

Sally greatly enjoyed birds and loved animals, especially dogs. Her two furry friends were Yankee Doodle and Skipper Buddy.

Travel was always a source of entertainment for the couple, and they were fortunate for the opportunity to travel extensively. Upon retirement they packed their new motorhome, tossed Skipper in, and departed for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, making stops at Washington DC, Hershey, PA, and numerous interesting sites enroute. It was exciting to view Vermont's blazing fall colors from a hot air balloon.

True snowbirds for 25 years, the couple first experiences winters in Florida, then sampled Arizona and California where they enjoyed Pasadena Rose Parades, Sequoia National Parks, and toured Mexico's Copper Canyon. Lured by fewer miles, winter found them in Mission, TX. The most amazing tour from this vantage location was trekking up to 9000' at Michoacan, Mexico to witness the migrating Monarch Butterflies. Returning Home each spring, they would make a sweeping jaunt on alternate routes to explore unseen territory.

Spring of 1998 the grass was cut, RV packed, and along with little Skipper, they departed for Bellingham, WA. They drove the RV into the hold of the Marine Highway Ferry and traveled the Inside Passage to Alaska, disembarking at each port for a few days, then reboarding and off to the next. They traveled to Alaska all summer, came home, cut grass, and went camping so Don could fish.

Horizons broadened and foreign travel found them in Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, Egypt, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavia being their favorites.

Sally was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church for almost 50 years.

Surviving Sally are her six daughters, Nancy Hendricks, Bonny (Dave) Schmidt, Debra (Chuck) Vande Hei, Vicky (Michael) Goemans, Sharon (Kelly) Wautier, and Dianne (Scott) Liss. She is further survived by her brother Jim (Janice) Cavil, brother-in-law Roy Tordeur, as well as 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Waiting in heaven to greet her is her loving husband and soulmate of 70 years, Donald, her parents Sylvester and Dora Cavil, sisters Mary Tordeur, and Eleanor Pautz, her son-in-law Darrell Hendricks, and her four-day old grandson, Justin.
