Sandra Louise Tsywahi De Coteau (Orie), 63, loving Mother, Wife and Grandmother, Green Bay, passed on to the Creator's World on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. She was born in Oneida, Wisconsin on February 28, 1948 to the late Harry Sr. and Vivian (Danforth) De Coteau. Sandra was an intelligent, beautiful, brave, and strong woman who sacrificed much to provide for her family for many years. Sandra received her Bachelor's Degree from UWGB, her Master's Degree from UW Oshkosh, and her post graduate certifications from UW Milwaukee. Sandra was an educator /principal for 25 years, having served as a teacher, principal, and superintendent of the Oneida School System. She was a member of the Elementary School Principals' Association, and State Reading Association. Sandra loved to read, cook, sew, shop, make jewelry, and take care of her grandchildren. Sandra was the author of the award - winning children's book Did You Hear Wind Sing Your Name? An Oneida Song of Spring. She was a member of the Oneida Longhouse. She was married to Gerald Orie in Detroit, Michigan on May 25, 1968, and they were married for 35 years, and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2011. Sandra received a second Gift of Life 10 years ago thru a Kidney Transplant.
She is survived by her children; Fern Orie, John Orie, Jules Orie (Kim Hendricks), Linda Orie, and Julia Orie. Her grandchildren further survive; Hannah Orie, Sage Birdsbill, Sierra Birdsbill, and Orion Wesho.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Hareen, and her husband Gerald.
Family and friends may call at the Oneida Longhouse W374 Reformatory Road in Oneida from 6pm on Wednesday (Today) until time of service at 10am on Friday at the Oneida Longhouse with Leander Danforth officiating. A funeral procession will follow immediately to Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour, where burial will take place. A traditional feast will follow at the Parish Hall.
