IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sean P.
Leahy
June 12, 1980 – December 2, 2022
On December 2, 2022, the Leahy family lost their hero. United States Marine Corps Major Sean P. Leahy was larger than life and never let the grass grow under his feet. He lived in countless places throughout his childhood and adult life, most recently in Green Bay, WI. He left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. His impact was global and his legacy will live on in all of us for years to come.
Sean was witty, well read, and passionate about his beliefs, his roles, and caring for his people. He never backed down from a fight and would share his perspective with vigor and intensity. He was an accomplished athlete and lifelong competitor. He loved sharing his passions of hockey, the great philosophers, MMA fighting, politics, and more with his family, friends, and strangers that became friends. Family was everything to Sean; no matter where he was in life, he showed up for his people and offered comfort, guidance, and executed a plan while easing the burden for those in need. Sean balanced his strong personality with a playful side that made him his boys' favorite playmate. He filled a room with his booming voice, laughter, and good dance moves when the moment felt right. He was loving and an embrace from Sean made you feel like nothing in the world could hurt you as long as he didn't let go. Sean would always say that his family, especially his boys, Ryan and Zack, were his greatest accomplishment. He was incredibly proud of their drive, intelligence, athleticism, and especially their ability to be vulnerable in a way that he struggled.
Sean met the love of his life, Meghan (Day) when the Leahy family moved to Port Edwards, WI in 1995. He pursued her love in the same way he did everything else in life with unwavering commitment and dogged determination. Sean and Meg married in 2005 and welcomed their first son Ryan (15) in 2007, followed by Zack (11) in 2011. Meg was fortunate to be one of the few that experienced his tender side.
Sean was born on June 12, 1980 to Tom and Laura Leahy in Hartford, CT. Sean arrived on the scene of the Leahy clan as number three of five in the same way he lived his life… with a fight. He was a scrappy newborn with dark soulful eyes and made sure the world knew he'd arrived with two shiners to prove it. Sean was wise, mischievous, impulsive, hilarious, fun, and protective. His mom, Laura Leahy, always said he should have been a lawyer because no one could outmatch him in an argument. He was his siblings' fiercest protector and challenger. He and his siblings shared close friendships that bonded them throughout the many moves they made as children. His best friend and ultimate hero was his dad, Tom Leahy. He cherished his mom's unwavering faith and unconditional love throughout his entire life.
Along with his family, Sean loved hockey and the United States Marine Corps. He was a natural leader on and off the ice serving as captain of many teams and inspiring and motivating youth as a dedicated and beloved coach. His Marine Corps career took him around the globe as he followed in his father and grandfathers' footsteps. He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and most recently Operation Allies Welcome. He was highly decorated and recognized for his bravery, valor and leadership. His Marines were his closest friends and confidantes. They were not just extended family, they were his family.
Sean is survived by his wife, Meghan of 17 years and his sons, Ryan and Zack and his parents, Tom and Laura Leahy of Longview, Texas. He will also be greatly missed by his siblings TD (Amanda) Leahy of Longview, TX, Erin (Bryan) Saylor of Quaker Hill, CT, Jessica (Josh) Rumlow of Pittsfield, MA and Bill (Crystal) Leahy of Quaker Hill, CT, his grandfather, Ralph Guidroz of Longview, TX, his in-laws Steve and Shari Day of Wrightstown, WI,and his brother-in-law Brian (Sarah) Day of Wrightstown, WI. Sean was also blessed with countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends he called family.
Please join us to honor and celebrate the life and impact Sean had on all of us. A Celebration of Life will occur at Destiny Church in De Pere, WI on Friday, Dec. 9th, 2022. Visitation with the family will take place from 2-4pm. The service will begin promptly at 4pm, ending with military honors. A fellowship dinner will follow.
For those that cannot attend, you may view the service through Destiny Church's Facebook livestream: http://destinydepere.org/ Please note the service will take place at 4pm Central Standard Time.
Please do NOT send flowers, instead please consider donating to the family's Go Fund Me page at https://gofund.me/cdc8bbd5 or to a charity in Sean's name. Some options include Veteran's causes (e.g. WI Veterans' Village @ https://wisvva.org/donate/), hockey camps, and dog rescues.
If you are feeling inclined to bring or send something, Zack has requested that in lieu of flowers, please bring a hockey stick. He feels like his dad would have loved that. Any donations will be distributed to organizations that support youth hockey families in need.
