Obituary

Shirley Evison, 73, of Oneida, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, May 8, 2009 at a local hospital. The daughter of the late Guy and Mercie (Metoxen) Cornelius was born August 7, 1935 in Oneida. She married Lewis Ninham, Sr. and he preceded her in death; she then married Floyd Evison and he preceded her in death. Shirley worked in California for several years until moving back to Oneida. She worked at the Oneida Casino and later at the Oneida Food Pantry. Mrs. Evison was active in the community and volunteered for various causes over the years. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Survivors include her son, Lewis Ninham, Jr., one sister, Zelda Pierce, brother Frederick Cornelius, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two husbands, one daughter, Debra Sewell, and one sister, Adele Oldenburg, five brothers, Elmer, Kenneth, Sherman, Everett and Forrest. Friends may call at Oneida United Methodist Church, Freedom Road, Oneida on Monday May 11, 2009 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Oneida Hymn Singers will sing at 10:30 am. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at the church with Rev Earl L. Smith, officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
