Shirley M. Schmitt, 79, De Pere, went into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by her family on Sunday January 19, 2020. She was born April 29, 1940 to the late Gordon and Florence Ferron. On October 3, 1959 she married Kenneth Schmitt. This love affair would last more than 60 years.
After staying home for years raising her family, Shirley began her career with Green Bay Public Schools as a noon hour supervisor at Nicolet School. She enjoyed that position for many years and it seemed like everywhere she went someone would approach her and say, "I remember you from when I was a kid! You were always my favorite!" and then give her a hug. Shirley retired after working for Head Start for several years. A position she absolutely loved. Shirley and Ken enjoyed many years of league bowling with their friends and was always so proud of her many trophies. Her greatest joy was spending time with family. It didn't matter what she was doing, as long as she was with family, she was happy. She loved her "Goddard Cousin Dinners", and special thanks to Kelly Guilette for always getting her there safely.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 60 years; Kenneth. Her daughters; Patricia (Chad Hodgins) Schmitt, Mary (Brian) Thomson, four grandchildren; Christopher (fiancé Krista Pieschek) Marto, Libby (Bobby) Thomson-Ramlet, Jonah Thomson, and Grace Thomson, and her brother and sister in law Bob and Sue Schmitt.
She was preceded in death by her mother, and step father, Florence and Cliff Lambert, her brother Ron Ferron, sister Betty Richard, an infant son, Kenny, Mother and Father in law; Ernest and Lillian Schmitt, sisters in law; Mary Fisher and Shirley Lettman, brothers in law; Ron Lettman and Raymond Schmitt, as well as dear family friend, Gerald DeValk.
Friends may visit after 1:00PM Thursday January 23, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere, until time of service at 3:00 PM with Deacon Michael VanderBloomen officiating. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Special thanks to the DeValk Family who are more like family than lifelong friends, Bellin 2nd floor Cardiac Nursing Staff, Heartland Hospice (especially Nadine, who was there during the most difficult times), and the Birch Creek Staff , who were so special to her.
