Stanley Everett Von Hoff, 100, was born on January 22, 1921 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He made his transition at his De Pere home, where he lived independently, on December 5, 2021. Stanley was the eldest son of Carl H. and Olive (née Romlow) Von Hoff. His siblings include Marion Beyer, LaVerne Schmeling (deceased), and Douglas C. Von Hoff (deceased).
During World War II, Stanley served aboard the U.S. Bayfield which carried 300 personnel and thousands of troops. The Bayfield, an amphibious attack transport, was among the ships that survived Typhoon Cobra (Halsey's Typhoon); Stanley was on-board. He also took part in the historic landings at Okinawa and Iwo Jima.
After the War, Stanley married Mary Anna LaTondress from St. Ignace, Michigan. They were married for 72 years. Stanley began his long career as an apprentice bricklayer under the G.I. Bill, received his teaching certificate from UW-Stout, and completed his professional duties as a masonry instructor at the Green Bay Correctional Institution. He retired from there in 1986. Stanley was a member of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, Scottish Rite and Beja Shriners, Shriners International.
In addition to his sister, Marion, Stanley is survived by five children, Dr. Daniel Von Hoff, Dr. Bonnie Johnson, Deborah Lang, Timothy Von Hoff, James Von Hoff, and numerous grandchildren and great children. He was an active outdoorsperson and an avid reader and gardener. Stanley was known as an altruistic, bountiful supplier of his seasonal fresh produce to local food banks and neighbors.
