Steven P. DeRuyter, 73, Green Bay, died unexpectedly on August 10, 2021 at home. The son of Donald Sr. and Helen DeRuyter, he was born April 2, 1948, in Green Bay, Wisconsin and was a graduate of West De Pere High School and the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Steve retired from SECURA Insurance, Appleton.
Steve served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1969 and was stationed for fourteen months in Vietnam. He was a Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 224 and served terms as President, Vice President, Secretary, Board of Directors, and headed up the Celebrate De Pere detail each year. Steve was chosen to go on the "Old Glory Honor Flight" in 2013. This was the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Bill (Cheri) Arizona, Sandra (Tom) De Pere, Don, Jr. De Pere, Larry (Maureen) De Pere, Lynn (Juin) Minnesota, niece Tina and nephews Matthew, Joseph, Adam, Jared and Travis.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Sr. and Helen, and his sister, Susan, and brother, Bernie.
Family and friends may visit at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021. The DeRuyter family requests that visitors wear masks. Full Military Honors will take place at 5:00 p.m. with VVA Chapter 224.
