Obituary

Susan Jane (Willems) De Ruyter, 67, of De Pere, passed away on Monday morning August 28, 2017. I was born May 20, 1950 in Green Bay to Carol (Engebretsen) and Thomas Willems. I graduated from St. Joseph Academy, Class of 1968. On October 6, 2006, I married Tom De Ruyter. Over the years, I served on the Board for Celebrate De Pere, De Pere Business Association and the UWGB Phoenix Booster Club. I loved the Packers, Brewers and UWGB Basketball. I worked at Prevea Health for eleven years. I am survived by my husband and best friend, Tom, stepdaughters, Lisa De Ruyter (John /Naomi Race), Sara De Ruyter, additionally survived by my granddaughter, Ariah Vogels who has brought more happiness and joy to my life than she will ever know. "I love you to the moon and back". Also survived by siblings, my 'baby brother', Ted (Jill) Willems, Larry (Faye) Willems, and Sara Willems, and many nieces and nephews, including my special nieces and nephews, Katie Bain, Caleb Bain, Candace Bain, Sage Willems, as well as my best friend Mary's children, Scott (Missy) Martens and Kimberly (Kurt) Gunn. I'm as Grannie Susie to Emily, August and Josephine Gunn and Hailey Martens. Also surviving are Tom's brothers, Mike (Mary) De Ruyter, Tim (Lynette) De Ruyter, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. I would like to thank my friends, Jane Rasmussen Strenn, Robyn Jauquet, Sue Calabrese, Mary Stryker, Sue Baier, Joe Schinkten, and Jim Johnson for their support through the years. I was preceded in death by my parents, Tom and Carol Willems, my brother, Greg Willems, grandparents, Lawrence and Margaret Willems, Ellis and Viola Engebretsen, parents-in-law, Johnny and Doris De Ruyter, and , of course, my forever friend, Mary Smits Martens. Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 2:30 to 7:00 pm on Thursday August 31, 2017. Visitation will continue after 9:00 am on Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere until time of service. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 10:30 am Friday at the church with Father Benny Jacob, O.Praem and Father James Neilson, O. Praem. officiating.
