IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Terry Jon
Hasselbacher
April 18, 1952 – February 3, 2023
Our beloved Husband and Dad, Terry Jon Hasselbacher, passed away Friday evening, February 3, 2023 at the age of 70, with his family by his side. He was born on April 18, 1952, to the late Robert W. and Shirley (Wallace) Hasselbacher.
He grew up in Neenah, WI, and graduated from Neenah High School and later with a degree in Mechanical Design from NWTC. He met his wife Chris through mutual friends and they were married in 1975. He continued to call her his "lovely bride" and treasured their 47 years together. Terry was a warm, loving, and affectionate husband and father whose absence will be felt deeply.
Family was very important to Terry; he and Chris have three children–Lee, Lauren, and Kevin–who always felt his pride and love. They also share Terry's love for classic rock and sneaking extra helpings of dessert. Terry warmly welcomed his childrens' spouses to the family and became a grandfather ("Papa") in 2015, when his granddaughter Alta was born. Since then, Graham and Josephine were welcomed to the family and Papa enjoyed many books, games, and cabin weekends with all of them.
Terry combined his skills in engineering and sales to build a career as a sales executive specializing in high-tech capital equipment and machinery. He was also well-known for his handyman skills around the house, some of which he picked up while working at Van Sistine Hardware in his twenties. He took pride in knowing his way around cars, especially his old 1973 MGB. He was always happy to help his kids keep their cars in working order or pull them out of a ditch in winter.
Terry was an avid golfer; during the summer he could often be found on the links with his golfing buddies. One of Terry's proudest moments was hitting a hole-in-one in June of 2000. Golf balls were always a reliable option for Christmas and birthday gifts.
Terry was a loyal member of the De Pere Kiwanis. He served two terms as club President, and just as importantly, as the De Pere Kiwanis Memorial Day Parade Chairman for more than a decade. Terry was especially proud to bring the parade back to the city last year after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Following retirement, Terry and Chris began volunteering with Ecumenical Partnership for Housing where they helped ensure support for families experiencing homelessness. Terry and Chris also continued their travels together, enjoying adventures in Europe and road trips around the U.S.
Terry is survived by his wife Chris Hasselbacher, loving children Lee (Sam Nekrosius) Hasselbacher, Lauren Hasselbacher, Kevin (Beth) Hasselbacher and his adoring grandchildren Alta Nekrosius, Graham Nekrosius, and Josephine Hasselbacher. He is also survived by his brother Ron (Chris) Hasselbacher; Chris's family, Sue (Gene) Simons, Lisa (Pete) Anderson, Patty (Keith) Christenson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert C. Hasselbacher, Marti Hasselbacher, and Chris's parents Donald and Faunie Van Sistine.
The family would like to thank the ICU teams at Aurora Baycare and UW Health for all they did to treat sudden complications of Terry's lung disease, as well as the compassion they showed our family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Ecumenical Partnership for Housing in memory of Terry.
Family and friends may join for visitation on Monday, February 13, from 3:30pm to 6:30pm at Mid Vallee Golf Course Clubhouse, with a memorial service starting at 6:30pm. Inurnment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery at a later date. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family.
