Thomas P. Martin, 76, of Allouez, closed his eyes one final time on Friday and moved to a peaceful place where his mind and body again work as one. "Sounds strange but I will be able to see again and run and jump. Joy! Joy!"
The son of the late Michael "Ross" and Edna (Baumgart) Martin was born October 16, 1933 in Green Bay. He married the former Dorothy Degner at St. Willebrord Catholic Church on October 8, 1955. The couple celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary last year.
Tom worked as a photographer for many years, starting with LeFebvre-Luebke Photo in the early years. Mr. Martin worked for WBAY TV in the photography department and photographed the Packers during the early Lombardi Years. He worked in retail for Camera Corner and Kelly Photo for many years. In the thirteen years prior to retirement, Tom worked as an audio-
visual technician/photographer for the Neville Public Museum. One of his most proud accomplishments was the 2010 Award from the Brown County Historical Society for Outstanding Contributions to the Interpretation and Preservation of Local History. He was very active at Heritage Hill, Brown County Historical Society and Historic Hazelwood. Tom served as Secretary and Board Member of the Heritage Hill Association. He enjoyed collecting many things, and was Founding President of the Brown County Geology Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, their children, Barb (Steve) Hendrickson, Ashwaubenon, Robert (Sue) Martin, Ashwaubenon, Paul (Kelly) Martin, Siren, WI, grandchildren, Craig Retzlaff, Ian and Nathan Martin; one sister, Jean Aiken, Scottsdale, AZ; brother Jerome (Verona) Martin, Fond du Lac. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kenneth, nephew, Steven Martin, and brother, John Martin.
Family and friends may call at St. Matthew Catholic Church corner of Webster and St. Matthew Streets, Allouez, from 9:00 to 11:00 am Thursday, July 1, 2010. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday at the church with Father Larry Seidl, officiating. Entombment to follow at Allouez Mausoleum.
