IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Timothy A.
Doughtery
September 25, 1949 – January 1, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Timothy Aloysius Dougherty, who left us on New Year's Day surrounded by love and family.
Born in Clifton, New Jersey, Tim lived a life marked by passion, humor, and an unyielding sense of honor. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jill, the love of his life and partner of many years, who shared with him a life full of joy, laughter, and love. Together, they raised three wonderful sons, Chase, Randall, and Danny, and welcoming a soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Taylor, into their close-knit family.
Tim's greatest legacy lies in the three fine young men he helped raise, instilling in them strength, character, and a deep sense of what's right. He loved his family fiercely, in the only way he knew how—with all his heart. His sense of humor was infectious, and he made everyone laugh, never taking himself too seriously.
Strength and honor were Tim's guiding principles, and chivalry was his way of life. He held doors, lent a hand, and led by example. But behind the wheel, he transformed into Ben-Hur, fiercely navigating the roads in a way that made us smile and shake our heads.
A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, Tim followed the team year-round, devouring updates and analysis with fervor. Once held back in second grade due to struggles with reading, Tim became a voracious reader, starting with comic books and eventually becoming deeply immersed in military history and science fiction.
Family dinners were sacred to Tim. Each day ended with the family gathered around the table, sharing stories, and toasting with "te amo," a ritual of love and connection. In the years when his boys were teenagers, he fondly referred to dinnertime as "feeding F-Troop," a time of chaos and love.
Tim was a history enthusiast, weaving stories and bringing the past to life for those around him. An expert in the Civil War and deeply knowledgeable about WWII and other global conflicts, he made history lessons unforgettable. He was also a fantastic storyteller, with the gift of the Irish and a knack for captivating an audience.
He loved music—especially oldies and Irish tunes—along with walks on sunny days, military strategies, maps, and time by the ocean, particularly on Long Beach Island. Tim's passion for food extended to cooking shows, grocery shopping, and sharing meals with family and friends. Golfing brought him joy—not for the score, but for the time spent outdoors with loved ones.
Tim found solace in his garden, pool, and back deck, where he spent countless moments with neighbors and friends. He followed the sun every day, his mood and spirit rising with its light.
Tim lived fully, with a deep love for his family, a passion for life's simple joys, and a personality that filled every room he entered. He will be missed beyond words but leaves behind memories of a life well-lived and love that will endure forever.
A private Celebration of Life has been held in Tim's honor.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Tim's memory by making a donation to your local police or fire department or to the Disabled American Veterans organization.
