Michael John "Uncle Mike" Vande Walle, 63, De Pere, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020. The son of Don and Norma (Liebergen) Vande Walle was born on November 16, 1957.
Mike grew up the second oldest of the five Vande Walle boys, and graduated from Shawano High School in 1976. In high school he met Mary Gross, and they married on July 26, 1980, shortly after his graduation from UW-Stout. Together, they raised two wonderful children and they became grandparents for the first time in 2019.
In 2001, Mike and his family opened the first Uncle Mike's Bake Shoppe in De Pere. Always striving to do things his very best, the company is now world famous. Smiles are delivered around the globe thanks to his recipes and innovative production facility.
More than anything, Mike loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a born entertainer and threw the best parties. He loved his wine clubs and he loved to cook. If Mary "wasn't hungry" after trying something, he didn't make it again. Mike and Mary also loved to travel, and they made trips to Jamaica at least once per year. They were perfect companion flyers.
Mike is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Nathan (Janelle) and Brittni (Jose Manuel); and grandson, Lincoln Michael. He is further survived by his mother, Norma; brothers, Don Jr. (Kim), Steve (Tess), Tom (Sue) and Jay (Dawn); many nieces, nephews and other members of his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don and other extended family members.
Family and friends may visit at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2020. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established for Mike.
