Obituary

Victoria Rae (nee Poullette) Jicha, 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Bellin Health in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on June 10, 2025. Born on October 24, 1944, in Oregon City, Oregon, Vicki was the daughter of Ellis and Geraldine (Kirk) Poullette.

Vicki spent her formative years in Hillsboro, Oregon, attending Hillsboro High School where her father taught biology. From a young age, her passion for music blossomed, leading her to become a dedicated member of the Portland Junior Symphony. She pursued her musical education at Portland State and Oberlin College, ultimately earning a degree in Flute Performance from Indiana University. Vicki's talent extended beyond the flute; she was an accomplished pianist, organist, and mastered instruments including the harpsichord and hammered dulcimer. She furthered her studies, completing a Master of Music degree with a specialization in Organ Performance at Northwestern University.

A revered figure in the music community, Vicki served as Flute Professor and Performance Chair at DePaul University. She also shared her expertise teaching at Wheaton College and Libertyville High School and was a member of the Grant Park Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Vicki performed with the Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera, and the Milwaukee Symphony, along with judging prestigious flute competitions. Throughout her life, Vicki dedicated her musical gifts to various places of worship, serving as organist and choir director for St. Andrew's Episcopal (Evanston, IL), St. Philip's Episcopal (Palatine, IL), St. David's (Glenview, IL), and Am Shalom Temple (Glencoe, IL). She was also the editor emeritus of Flute Talk Magazine. Possessing perfect pitch and incredible creativity, Vicki composed and arranged a wealth of music for flute, keyboard, organ, and other instruments. Those pieces continue to be performed and sold today.

Beyond her musical endeavors, Vicki was a talented crafter. She proudly achieved the distinction of being the first Master Knitter in Wisconsin. Her crafting prowess was further recognized through her award-winning memberships in the Green Bay Quilt Guild, Green Bay Embroiderers Guild, and the Circular Sock Machine Society.

Victoria is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Andrew. She will be missed by her children, Richard E. Graef (with Abigail Harlan) and Rachel (Steve) Yurk. She was a deeply loved grandmother to Richard J. (Cara Taggersell) and Austin (Kristin) Graef, as well as Valerie, Stephanie, and Daniel Yurk. She was a great-grandmother to Luna Graef. She is also survived by her sister, Valerie Poullette, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Geraldine Poullette of Newport, Oregon, and Sandra Graef.
