October 18, 1934 – April 10, 2026
Virgil “Jake” Kussow went to the Lord on April 10th 2026. Born October 18th 1934. Jake loved the Packers. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jake was the eldest of six children. In 1938 his family moved to the “farm” in the Town of Lawrence. He attended Grant Grade School and graduated from Nicolet High School in West De Pere.
Jake was volunteered drafted during the Korean War in 1953. He served for 2 years before being honorably discharged. He relished his time in the Army in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Jake umpired many seasons in the 70s and was honored “umpire of the year.” He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
Jake was an avid pool shooter throughout De Pere. He volunteered throughout his life at his church, St. Johns Lutheran Church in West De Pere. He was on the board and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. In his spare time he spent many hours out on the course and took care of the greens and holes. He took pride in doing what he loved.
Jake enjoyed the hunting season with family and friends. He continued going up “nort” to shoot that big buck. That he never got. Please don’t tell him we told you. Maybe there were too many Manhattans with anchovy olives involved in the hunting seasons. During the off season he would enjoy the fresh air on his Harley with his wife Randean.
On October 21,1977 he married Randean Robinson.
Jake was proudly engaged in helping other and maintenance up keep with management at various apartment complexes and establishments. He loved puttering outside in his retirement years. He was the “neighborhood watch” and always knew what was going on. He was truly a man of all trades as well as someone who never said “no”, making him extremely loved and a popular man.
Jake is survived by his wife, Randean: their children, Sue (Ron) Rentmeester, Steve (Mary) Kussow, Scott (Cheryl) Kussow, Stuart (Amy) Kussow, Collette Lanser, Cheryl (Steve) DeJardin and Jack (Linda) Thornton. He is survived by his sister Judy Maus, sister in laws, Judy Kussow, Mary Kussow, Jackie Kussow, Beverly Robinson, Joanie Robinson and Mother of his children Inge Kussow. Granchildren: Matt (Autumn) Rentmeester, Casey Rentmeester, Mandy (Brendan) Baier, Katie (Benjamin) Deen, Lindsey Kussow, Allison (Calvin) Palet, Trent(Hana) Kussow, Zac (Robyn) Schanau, Courtney Schanau, Chad Shaha, Misty (Reid) Long, Heather (Jason) Borlee, Hannah (Aaron) Pribyl, Philip (Amy) Akins, Adam (Amelia) Akins. Great grandchildren- Harper, Audrey, Khaleesi, Quinten, Camden, Aiden, Eleanor, Jaxon, Deklin, Levi, Gianna, Dane, Camden, Colten, Easton, Emsley, Easton, and Emmalane. Many other nieces and nephews who will miss him tremendously.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Elnora (Pagel) Kussow, his brothers, Merle (Joyce) Kussow, Russ Kussow, Lowell Kussow, Jerry Kussow. In Laws- Glenn Maus, Travis Robinson, Marion Robinson, Irwin Robinson, JoAnne Staats, Lucille Robinson and children, Colleen Thornton, Colleen Kussow and Steve Thornton.
Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. 10th Street, De Pere, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, April 26. Visitation will continue on Monday morning at St. John Lutheran Church, 1700 Lost Dauphin Road, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Full military honors will follow.
The family would like to thank special friends and neighbors Toni and Nathan Ronk, Josh Sahotsky and Lynnette Berreau. Thank you to Comfort Keepers, Green Bay Veterans Staff for years of wonderful and kind care. DePere Police and Fire were amazing during this difficult time.
