Obituary

Wayne 'Bud' Mohr was born on September 20, 1939, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Henry and Victoria (Raasch) Mohr. From the very beginning, Bud carried himself with an open-hearted faithfulness—kind, playful, and generous in a way that became his signature.

Bud had an idyllic and adventurous childhood. He started building go-karts with his neighborhood friends at age 10. At age 14, he started driving dirt-track stock car at Wausau State Park Speedway.

He served in the U.S. Enlisted Reserve Corps from 1956 to 1958 before he was honorably discharged. He was heavily involved in the Wausau Moose Club Lodge, becoming their youngest governor at age 18. He was also proud of his service as a volunteer police officer in Wausau in the 1960s and later a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Lawrence.

In 1970, in his hometown of Wausau, Bud met the love of his life, Kathleen (Thiede). Together they built a beautiful life, first spending five years in Omaha, Nebraska, before settling in De Pere, Wisconsin, where they raised their family and created a home filled with love, laughter, care for others, and a little bit of chaos.

Bud spent his entire adult career as a parts man, retiring in 2008 as Parts Manager for the Brown County Highway Department. His exceptional organization and attention to detail made him invaluable in his work, but it was his kindness, easy smile, and genuine interest in people that made him truly beloved. Bud didn't just know parts—he knew people.

A master do-it-yourselfer, Bud approached every project with quiet determination and patience. He found joy in life's simple pleasures: tinkering in the garage, mowing the lawn just right and endless hours of landscaping, Friday night pizza and beer, fishing, learning everything he could about airplanes and World War II, and faithfully cheering for #32 Lyle Nowak Racing, the Green Bay Packers, and the Milwaukee Brewers. Yet his greatest joy was always being surrounded by those he loved. Bud had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and cared for—never letting anyone go hungry, thirsty, or uncomfortable if he could help it.

Whether through a perfectly timed one-liner, a classic "dad joke", or a long, winding story that always landed with a great punchline, Bud loved to make people laugh. Even as dementia clouded his final time, Bud's mischievous smirk and playful spirit never left him. To know him was to love him. He led every interaction with kindness and left friendships wherever he went. The world would be a far more wonderful place if everyone could be a little more like Buddy.

Bud is survived by his angel of 54 years, his beloved wife, Kathy. In his spirit of labeling his possessions, he is also chronologically survived by his #1 son Kevin (Doreen) Mohr, #2 son Thane Mohr, #3 son Brian Mohr (Heather McVeigh), and his favorite daughter Karyn (Eric) St Aubin; grandchildren Parker Naparalla (Jaiden Lecker), Beau St Aubin, Rylee Mohr, Brielle St Aubin, and Ella Mohr; and great-grandchildren Ashtyn and Roman Naparalla, with a third Naparalla baby girl arriving soon; in-laws Chuck Thiede, Jeff Thiede, Julie (Mike) Brost, Lori (Roger) Haizel, Bill (Carmen) Thiede; many nieces, nephews, and too many dear friends to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in-law Les and Lou Thiede, siblings John Mohr, Donald 'Dinty' Mohr, Marsha Nitzsche, and Dorothy 'Dots' Nikolai; brothers-in-law Bob Nitzsche and Jim Nikolai; sister-in-law Lorraine Mohr; and goddaughter Marcy Nowak.
