Wayne Harold Smits, 64, of De Pere, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Born on June 10, 1953, to Hazel Greatens and Harold Smits in Green Bay, he attended West De Pere High School and Silver Lake College. He married Kathleen Kramer on June 2, 1984 at Our Lady of Angels in Armstrong, Wisconsin. He served in the Army in the 1970's. He was a jack of all trades until he became a small business owner, incorporating his love of cars. Wayne was active in the ski club and investment club with his wife and dozens of friends. He enjoyed all things "up north" including hunting, skiing, white water rafting, kayaking, sailing, and grilling/smoking. He loved spending time with his family and friends whether it was playing cards, attending hot air balloon festivals, or watching the Packers, Brewers, and NASCAR. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Joel (Veronica) Smits and Michael Smits; his mother, Hazel Smits; his siblings, Randy (Cheryl) Smits, Ron (Barb) Smits, and Gale (Daniel) Pierre; many brothers and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Harold Smits; his brother, Rick Smits; Grandpa Greatens; his father and mother-in law, Leo and Veronica Kramer. Friends and family may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere. A short prayer service will close the evening at 7:00 PM.
