Obituary

Woodrow "Woody" Webster, 96, of Oneida, passed away Friday afternoon, September 11, 2009 at a local nursing home. The son of the late Isaac and Josephine (Hill) Webster was born October 21, 1912 in Oneida. Woody served in WW II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was also an instructor at Great Lakes as well as Navy Pier. He married the former LaVerne Schwerdt on May 9, 1970 in Oneida. LaVerne preceded him in death on December 19, 2002. Woody accomplished many things over the years, including his work at Seymour Canning, Door County Fruit Harvesting, and the U.S. Postal System. Woody wrote a column for many years at the Seymour Press and the Oneida News. A Past Tribal Chairman, he was an avid member of the Community and served on many committees at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church. Mr. Webster was a Charter Member of the Robert W. Cornelius VFW Post 7784 in Oneida, as well as a Lifetime Member of the Seymour American Legion Post 106 . An avid musician, he was in many bands over the years, especially Abe and His Honest Injuns. He proudly represented the Native Americans as an Indian Singer for many years in Wisconsin Dells. He and LaVerne volunteered many hours in the Community, especially at Oneida Elderly Centers. In his earlier years, he was active in the Dance-a-Thons. Woody's family includes one daughter, Linda Lou Robinson, granddaughters, Kathy Hernandez and her fianc, Mark Bolzenthal, Elizabeth (Christopher) Briscolino, great grandchildren, Kerri, Michael, Justin, Lauren and Keith, as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, LaVerne. Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Oneida Hymn Singers will begin at 6:30 pm. Parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at Ryan's until the procession leaves for church at 10:00 am. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, Freedom Road, Oneida, with Mother Kristina Henning, Deacon Edmund Powless and Deacon Deborah Heckel, officiating.
