Obituary for Joan M. Roemaat

Joan Marlene (Kocken) Roemaat, age 67, resident of De Pere, WI, lived her life with a courageous attitude. She passed away on Nov. 30, 2017. Born on September 18, 1950 to Marlene Van Den Heuvel and Albert Kocken in De Pere. She attended St. Boniface Grade School and The Academy. She married Arnold Roemaat on July 22, 1989 at Nativity Catholic Church.

Joan had a passion for great food. This passion led her down a path of baking wedding cakes for friends and family. Later, her many years of waitressing and management in the restaurant industry, motivated her to take on the challenge of owning multiple restaurants, including: The Plaza Family Restaurant in Seymour, Viand’s in Green Bay and What’s Cookin’ in Freedom. She truly enjoyed taking care of her customers. However, her greatest joy was taking care of, and cooking for, her family.

Joan would never miss a chance to join a friend in conversation and lunch, or a good game of Sheepshead and let’s not forget… Bingo!! She also loved to travel. In these past three years, she was able to enjoy a cruise with all of her children to Aruba, the beauty of Hawaii and hugging a redwood in California.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold, children; Jackie and William Calaway, Jennie and Roy Lambrecht, Eric and Anne Vanden Heuvel, Aaron Vanden Heuvel, Jason and Jennifer Vanden Heuvel. Her grandchildren include: Chelsea, Hunter, Isabella, Brandon, Shaden, Kalli, Katie, Anthony, Lillianna, Natalia, Lili, Joseph, Jose and Allison. Also, by her brothers; Tony and Sue, Glen and Paula, Dennis and Peggy, Jeff and Chris and Frank and Cindy and her in-laws; Sue, Ann, John and Debbie, Corny and Lynn, and Joe and Terri and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Bill Gornall.

Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N Tenth Street, De Pere after 4:00 pm Sunday, December 3, 2017 with a prayer service at 7:00 pm to bring the evening to a close.
